Former Minister of Foreign Affairs: Rotation of approximately 20 ambassadors is not a personnel tsunami but an opportunity for Ukraine’s new diplomacy
“This (replacement of around 20 Ukrainian ambassadors – ed.) is not some kind of personnel tsunami within the system. It is a fairly predictable development that has been in preparation for quite some time,” Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin noted.
He added that, in his opinion, many of the appointments “make absolute sense and are very successful,” mentioning that he knows some of these individuals personally, while for “ some of the other appointments, time will tell”.
“There is always an element of risk… If these people work effectively, are listened to, and can generate bold ideas, I will personally be very pleased,” the diplomat said.
The former minister further remarked that replacing around 20 ambassadors is not an excessively large number, noting that those diplomats who are to be replaced have already served four years in their respective countries of assignment, which he called “a normal development.”

Political prisoner Kolomiyets returns to Ukraine after 10 years in Russian custody
Euromaidan activist and political prisoner Andriy Kolomiyets has returned to Ukraine after being released from a Russian penal colony and held at the border with Georgia.
On June 10, 2016, Kolomiyets was sentenced to ten years in a high-security prison on charges of attempting to murder two former officers of Ukraine's Berkut riot police during the Maidan protests in Kyiv.
Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office denied any evidence of Kolomiyets' involvement in attacks on Berkut officers. The Crimean Human Rights Group stated that the case was fabricated and politically motivated.
While in the Russian penal colony, Kolomiyets was repeatedly placed in solitary confinement on baseless grounds.
After his release, he was held at the Georgian border checkpoint due to expired documents resulting from his decade-long imprisonment.
