Russia announces strike on Ukraine with Oreshnik missile in response to “attack on Putin’s residence”
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on the night of January 9, a strike was carried out on Ukrainian territory, including with a medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missile.
The Russian Defense Ministry called the strike on Ukraine a response to an alleged attack on Putin’s residence in Valday on the night of December 29, 2025.
It is claimed that the Russian Armed Forces allegedly attacked “facilities producing unmanned aerial vehicles used in the terrorist attack, as well as energy infrastructure supporting the operation of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.”
Earlier, Colonel Yuriy Ignat, Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said that Russia could strike the Lviv region from the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region, where, according to preliminary information, the Oreshnik complex is based.
SSU shows fragments of Oreshnik used by Russia to attack Lviv region
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has established the location of fragments of a ballistic missile used by the Russian army to strike the Lviv region on the night of January 9.

Air Defense Forces destroy 226 Russian drones, eight ballistic missiles, and 10 Kalibr missiles
In total, the Air Force’s radio-technical troops detected and tracked 278 air attack vehicles, including 36 missiles and 242 UAVs of various types.
242 Shahed and Gerbera UCAVs (other types of drones) from the following directions: Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russian Federation), Chauda, Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied Crimea), and temporarily occupied Donetsk. About 150 of them were Shahed drones.
13 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles (launch areas – Bryansk region);
22 Kalibr cruise missiles (from the Black Sea);
One medium-range ballistic missile (from the Kapustin Yar test site, Astrakhan region).
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare, and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, Air Defense Forces shot down/jammed 244 air targets:
226 drones;
eight Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
10 Kalibr cruise missiles.
Hits by 18 missiles and 16 UCAVs were recorded at 19 locations.

Russia's January 9 attack has left 417,000 consumers in four districts of the Ukrainian capital without electricity.
Kyiv City Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko reported on Telegram, following a meeting of the commission on technological and environmental safety and emergency situations, that damage had been recorded at 29 locations. Among the affected sites are about 50 buildings, four educational institutions, and 18 vehicles.
40 objects damaged in Kyiv due to Russian attack — Klymenko
As a result of the Russian attack on the night of January 9, 40 objects were damaged in Kyiv, including 20 residential buildings.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko stressed that in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, the enemy launched a second strike on a high-rise building while rescuers and medics were working there.





A medical worker was killed, and five State Emergency Service rescuers, four medical workers, and a police officer were wounded. “This is a deliberate attack on emergency services. A deliberate attack by Russia on humanity,” the minister stressed.
He reported that at another location in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, the bodies of three victims were found after an enemy drone strike. Two have already been identified, and the identity of the third is being established. Another person is considered missing.







Almost all districts in the Kyiv region were under enemy attack. Fires broke out in residential buildings and farm buildings in the Brovary, Obukhiv, and Boryspil districts. A family was rescued in the Brovary district, including a mother, father, grandmother, and five-year-old child. All of them received medical assistance.
